The Disrobing Of Adrian Hayes
2009 71 x 144 cms
This chapel was part of collateral damage in a series of violent repercussive incidents culminating in the killing on a bridge over the Todd River. Adrian Hayes, (see, Dawn Service) The man depicted in the painting is not that man, but circumstances are such that he may be considered as an 'incarnation' of the same cycle of destruction. It may be with this in mind that the two policemen consider his euphoric gaze with seriousness. Those who like classical resonances fondly inserted into traditional European set pieces will note a potential glance to a Jesus of Nazareth, nominal messiah and 'king' of the insurgent Jews' being taken, by order of the Roman governor, Pilate, at night from the garden of Gethsemane.
